Fairfax, VA -  Redshirt senior guard  Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI/Suttons Bay [Michigan State]) tossed in a career-high 21 points but the Wagner men's basketball team could not overcome a mid second-half scoring drought at George Mason as the Patriots of the Atlantic 10 Conference pulled away for a 71-60 win this afternoon.

DeAndre Abram led all scorers with 27 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while hitting 6-of-8 from three-point range, in addition to adding 10 rebounds for the Patriots. Teammate Marquise Moore also delivered a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards while Otis Livingston II chipped in with 11.

With the loss, the Seahawks, who were coming off of an impressive 76-64 victory at Fairfield on Friday night, fall to 6-4 on the season. In winning their second straight game, Mason improves to 6-7 overall.

Anderson shot 9-of-14 from the floor, including a 3-of-5 effort from three-point range and added three steals and an assist in a back-and-forth affair that featured eight ties and 10 lead changes.

The Seahawks held an eight-point first-half lead at 18-10 midway through the first half but George Mason outscored Wagner 20-11 to take a 30-29 halftime lead.

The Green & White led 42-39 following a jumper by junior guard Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolidated [San Jacinto College]) with 14:18 remaining in the game and trailed by just one at 48-47 when Anderson sank a three-pointer with 9:04 left to play.

This is when the scoring drought hit as the Patriots put together a pivotal 13-0 run as the Seahawks went scoreless for a stretch of 5:06. With Wagner trailing 60-47, sophomore guard Romone Saunders (Temple Hills, MD/Potomac [Mt. Zion Prep]) broke the dry spell with a pair of free throws with just 3:58 remaining.

Sophomore guard Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic) drained a three-pointer with 3:20 left to make it a 62-52 game, which was Wagner's first field goal in 5:44 but it was too little too late as the Patriots hit six free throws down the stretch in posting the 11-point win.

Henson finished with nine points, six of which came in the first half, while Carey added eight points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

The Seahawks shot 36.1 percent from the floor and were 82 percent (9-of-11) from the charity stripe.  The Patriots finished the game shooting 43.5 percent from the field while hitting a sizzling 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from long range. George Mason connected on 24-of-36 for the game from the line, 15-of-23 in the second half, alone, while outrebounding the Seahawks, 45-30.

The Seahawks are next in action on Wednesday, December 30 when they play host to the UMass Lowell River Hawks with the tip at the Spiro Sports Center set for 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on NEC Front Row (www.necfrontrow.com) as Joey Wahler will call the action live from courtside.
