Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bergtraum) as the Central Connecticut women's basketball recorded a 77-61 win over Wagner this afternoon at Detrick Gymnasium.
The Blue Devils, who were picked in a tie for ninth place with Fairleigh Dickinson in the 2014-2015 Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Poll, maintained a share of first place in the league standings at 6-1 along with Bryant (71-67 winners over Sacred Heart today), improving to 10-8 overall. In dropping their fourth straight, the Green & White are now 2-5 in the NEC and a season mark of 4-14.
Junior guard
Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) added 18 points for the Seahawks, who also received nine points from sophomore guard
Lyndsay Rowe (South River, NJ/St. John Vianney). All of Rowe's points came via the long ball as the 5-8 lefty, who entered the game tops in the NEC in three-point field goal shooting percentage (.434), went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc while playing all 40 minutes.
Freshman
Sofia Roma (Richmond Hill, NY/Nazareth Regional) was active in the low post throughout as the 6-2 New York City product scored six points on 3-of-5 shooting while pulling down 10 rebounds. For Roma, the 10 boards mark the second time in her young career that she has reached double-digits in caroms as she snared 18 boards, while tallying a career-high eight points, at Saint Francis U on January 3.
Wagner is back in action on Monday, January 26 when the Seahawks meet Saint Francis U for the second time this season in a 7:00 p.m. start at the Spiro Sports Center. In the January 3 NEC opener for both teams,
Wagner posted a 76-60 victory over the Red Flash in Loretto, PA.
