Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's sccer team dropped its first home match of the season in a 4-1 decision to Rider this afternoon at Hameline Field.
Following today's result, the Seahawks, and their counterparts from the MAAC, now sport identical 3-2 records.
Wagner was unable to keep its offense going after junior midfielder
Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany / LSH) was able to score in the game's first minute, off of a rebound that hit the post, which staked the Seahawks to an early 1-0 lead.
This is the way the score remainined until Rider tied it up right before halftime, when Tara Ballay put the ball in the back of the net in the 43rd minute, to make it a 1-1 game at intermission. The Broncs then continued their momentum in the second half with a goal by Priscilla Santos in the 59th minute to move in front by a 2-1 count. Rider then surged to a commanding 4-1 lead with goals in the 80th and 82nd minute, the first off the foot of Alanna McDougall, and the latter by Ballay.
The Seahawks used 20 players today in a game that saw freshman
Jessica Wilm (Shelton, CT / Shelton) make her first career start in goal.
The Green & White will return to action on Thursday, September 11 when they travel to Hartford to meet the Hawks in a 6:00 p.m start.
