NEC ReleaseSomerset, NJ - Freshman
Charlton Boyd's (Shreveport, LA / Loyola College Prep) impact on the Wagner's men's tennis team has resulted in his being named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Tennis Co-Rookie of the Month for September, sharing the honor with Bryant's Matt Kuhar.
One of eight freshmen on this year's re-tooled roster, Boyd posted an 8-1 record in singles matches during his first month of collegiate play, highlighted by a perfect 5-0 record in dual match play while recording a 3-1 record in tourament action.
Boyd advanced to the Hofstra Invitational Flight "B" Championship (September 19-20) before falling to Hofstra's Ricky Hendler. Boyd and his doubles partner, sophomore
Sam Flaxman (Avon, CT / Avon), also delivered second-place performances at the Hofstra Invitational Flight "B" Doubles Tournament. For the season, Boyd and Flaxman have combined for a 6-2 record as doubles partners.
Under the direction of second-year head coach
Danny Kreyman,
Wagner is off to a 5-0 start, which eclipses the Seahawks' combined win total (four) over the previous six seasons. In wins over Holy Cross, Siena, La Salle, Saint Peter's and NEC rival St. Francis Brooklyn, the Green & White have dropped just three matches.
