Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany / LSH) scored the first goal of the game and sophomore midfielder
Sydney McNutt (Hatboro, PA / Hatboro-Horsham) added a second, while senior goalkeeper
Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy) made six saves, in lifting the Seahawks to a 2-1 victory.
In winning its final non-conference match of the season before embarking on its eight-game Northeast Conference (NEC) schedule, the Green & White improve to 4-5-1 on the season while Ivy League member Cornell falls to 5-3.
In posting the win, Wagner overcame an own goal that occurred just 2:08 into the contest which gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead and the early momentum.
The Seahawks knotted the game at 1-1 in the 11
th minute when Konrad tracked down a loose ball and deposited it into the back of the net after a shot by sophomore midfielder
Megan Fritz (Cape Coral, FL / Mariner) deflected off of a Cornell defender.
McNutt then registered what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 27th minute after receiving a gorgeous cross from Konrad on the right side following a Big Red turnover.
"I really credit our girls for finding a way to grab a win on the road against a solid Cornell team," said assistant coach
Jenifer Anzivino. "It was an entire team effort for 90 minutes which really boosted the teams' mentality heading into the start of our NEC season."
The Big Red outshot the Seahawks by a 24-3 count.
The Green & White will return to action Friday, October 3 when they travel to Saint Francis U to take on the Red Flash at 1:00 p.m.
