Wagner And Indiana Set For NCAA Play-In Showdown

Post-Season Notes | Watch Live!

Bloomington, IN – For the first time since 2007, the Wagner Seahawks will be a part of the NCAA Water Polo Tournament, in a Bloomington battle against #12 Indiana. The Seahawks and the Hoosiers will take part in one of two play-in games today at 1:00 pm with the winner facing #1 Stanford.

Head Coach Chris Radmonovich will lead the team to the Hoosier State winners of 10 straight contests, and fresh off of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. The Green and White defeated Marist by a tally of 9-7 on April 27th, earning the programs first conference championship since that 2007 season.

The goal scoring this season has come primarily from first team All-MAAC selection Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia / Mountain Creek). The junior Burdge and the sophomore Lundgren are tied for the team lead with 103 goals each.

Along with Lundgren and Burdge, three players were honored as second-team All-MAAC recipients, in junior co-captain Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan), sophomore center Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck), and freshman goalie Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett).

The 25-11 Seahawks have broken three school records on the year, with Burdge winning 49 sprints, Lundgren tallying 152 steals, and sophomore Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA / San Ramon Valley), who earned a spot on the MAAC All-Tournament team, recording 104 assists.

The matchup for Wagner is against a team that got the better of the Seahawks back on February 2nd, in Wagner's third game of the year. At the Brown Invitational, Indiana topped Wagner 15-5, as the Hoosiers began the season on a six-game winning streak.

At 22-5 and a perfect 14-0 in the CWPA, the Hoosiers knocked off Connecticut College 19-1, topped Michigan 14-7, and beat Princeton 11-10 to advance to the program's third NCAA Championships.

Winners of 11 straight games, Indiana is led by senior Shae Fournier, who has scored 73 goals on the season. In the net, sophomore goalie Jessica Gaudreault has posted impressive numbers, saving 207-of-360 shots for a .575 save percentage.

These two teams will meet at 1:30 pm in Bloomington on Saturday, May 3rd. Visit www.wagnerathletics.com for more information on how to watch live.
