Seahawks Split Pair Of Matches

The Wagner women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to LIU Brooklyn before besting St. Francis Brooklyn 6-1 in the nightcap at the Wagner Tennis Courts.

With the split, the Seahawks are now 5-7 and 2-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and return to action tomorrow at Hartford with first serve slated for 4:30 pm.

After being swept against the Blackbirds, the Green & White were dominant against the Terriers, winning eight of the nine matches.

During doubles action, Wagner won all three matches handily. At No. 1, the freshman tandem of Sarah Dionisio (East Yaphank, NY / Longwood) and Cassidy Lessard (Jamesport, NY / McGann-Mercy) posted an 8-1 victory. At No. 2, freshman Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA / Edison) and junior Kari Rezac (Wichita, KS / Maze) posted an 8-0 victory. Junior Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) and sophomore Jenna Harris (Fountain Hills, AZ / Fountain Hills) also won by an 8-0 shutout at No. 3.

During singles play, Pautch (No. 2), Jergielewicz (No. 3), Harris (No. 4), Rezac (No. 5) and Lessard (No. 6) all won easily and yielded just a combined two points in their five victories.
