Monmouth Defeats Wagner 5-2

Junior Kari Rezac posted a come-from-behind 8-4 win at No. 6 singles

Monmouth defeated Wagner 5-2 in a highly-contested match between former Northeast Conference (NEC) rivals at the Wagner Tennis Courts.

The Hawks improve to 4-7 with the win while the Seahawks fall to 4-6.

During doubles action, the teams split the first two matches with Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) and Jenna Harris (Fountain Hills, AZ / Fountain Hills) posting an 8-2 win at No. 3 while MU recorded an 8-2 victory at No. 1. In the deciding match, the duo of junior Kari Rezac (Wichita, KS / Maize) and freshman Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA / Edison) were clipped 8-6 at No. 2 to secure the first point for the visitors.

In singles action, Jurgielewicz posted a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win at No. 3 while Rezac ripped off seven-straight points to notch a come-from-behind 8-4 victory at No. 6.

Elsewhere in singles play, freshman Sarah Dionisio (East Yaphank, NY / Longwood) claimed the first set 7-6 via tiebreaker before dropping the final two sets 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. Harris also put up a good fight before falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4.

The Green & White returns to action on Friday, April 4 with a pair of matches against St. Francis Brooklyn (11:00 am) and LIU Brooklyn (4:00 pm) at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
