Wagner vs Harvard
Harvard tried to avenge a Feb. 9 loss to Wagner in game one, but was unsuccessful as the Seahawks came back in the fourth quarter to take the first game. Sophomore
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck) led Wagner with three goals while classmate
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA / San Ramon Valley) had a career-high nine assists.
In a back and forth contest throughout, reigning MAAC Players of the Week
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia / Mountain Creek) and
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) were both able to score in the first quarter, matching the Crimson's two scores to end the period tied. Both teams added three goals in the second quarter, as Rodriguez closed out the second with a goal from Lundgren with 39 seconds remaining in the half.
Rodriguez found Lundgren to begin the second half for a goal, but the Seahawks went down in the third after three straight Harvard goals made the score 8-6. Doerfler found the back of the net with 1:52 left in the third as the Green and White went into the final quarter down 8-7.
The Seahawks took back the lead after Burdge and Lundgren scored in the opening minute in the fourth quarter from Rodriguez, making the score 9-8. Harvard found some momentum to make it 10-9 at the 5:59 mark of the fourth, but Doerfler was able to score twice and Burdge scored again to put Wagner in the lead 12-10 with 3:49 remaining. The Crimson got one goal past goalie
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett) in the final minutes, but the freshman was able to keep Harvard out of the net to preserve a 12-11 victory.
Wagner vs Princeton
Princeton was able to get out to a fast lead in the first quarter, as the #9 Tigers were able to take control with a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lundgren found the net once from
Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan) in the quarter, which was her first of four goals in the 14-8 loss.
Burdge and Lundgren added second quarter goals for Wagner, but Princeton scored three times and held an 8-3 lead going into the half.
In the third, both teams added three goals as Rodriguez scored twice and Doerfler added one goal for the Seahawks, putting the score at 11-6 going into the fourth. Lundgren scored twice in the third period, while the Tigers got three goals past Riddle to make the final tally 14-8.
For the game, Riddle stopped six shots to go along with seven saves in the first game, for the split. The 6-7 Seahawks will face Bucknell for the first time this season at 8:00 am tomorrow, then battle George Washington for the third time this season at 1:00 pm.
