Lewisburg, PA - For the second straight week, the women's water polo team has topped George Washington, this time by a score of 15-8. Junior
Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA / Davis) led the way for Wagner, scoring a career-high five goals in the win.
For just the second time this season, the Seahawks were held scoreless in the first frame, when George Washington scored twice, leading the way 2-0.
Wagner erupted in the second quarter, scoring five goals from four different players. Greenough had two scored in the period, while
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck),
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA / San Ramon Valley), and
Amanda Sutherland (Denton, TX / Denton Ryan) all had one. Freshman
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett) held the Colonials to two goals in the quarter, as the Green and White went into the half up 5-4.
Both teams found the net three times in the third quarter, as George Washington trailed Wagner 8-7 going into the final frame. In the fourth, Wagner took control scoring seven goals from six different players, and limiting the Colonials to one score for the 15-8 win.
Greenough led the way with her five scores for Wagner, while Doerfler,
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's), and
Stacy McGregor (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson) had two goals each.
The Seahawks have two games today, as they will square off with MAAC opponent Villanova at 3:30 pm, and hit the pool against Michigan at 8:30 pm. Wagner will have one more game in the Bison Invitational against UCSD tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
