Orono, ME – The Wagner Seahawks play the first of three straight road games on Tuesday night in Orono, ME as they take on America East member, the University of Maine Black Bears.

This is just the second all-time meeting between the two schools with the Seahawks taking winning the meeting, 77-66 on Staten Island, back on February 10, 1992 under former head coach and current Northeast Conference and Brooklyn Nets color analyst, Tim Capstraw.

  • Wagner is 15-13 all-time against schools that current members of the America East Conference
  • This season, the Seahawks will be taking on two America East foes in Maine and Vermont, with both contests being played on the road

WAGNER LAST TIME OUT
  • Behind a surging second-half effort, in which the Seahawks took their first lead of the game with 1:43 remaining in the game, the Wagner men's basketball team completed a 64-61 comeback win over the University of Pennsylvania Quakers, 64-61, in front of a loud, raucous crowd of 1,876 at the Spiro Sports Center.
  • The backcourt combination of 6-0 senior Marcus Burton (Charlotte, NC/David W. Butler) and 6-0 freshman JoJo Cooper (Wilmington, DE/Concord) led the way for the Seahawks. Burton finished with a game-high 17 points, which included a 7-of-10 effort from the free-throw line, while Cooper tossed in a career-high 15 points, highlighted by a five-point output during a 1:16 stretch of the second half.
  • Bruising 6-8 sophomore power forward Greg Senat (Elmont, NY/Elmont) chipped in seven points, including a clutch 15-foot baseline jumper with 14 seconds left to play, while pulling down a team-high six rebounds.
MAINE LAST TIME OUT
  • The Northern Illinois men's basketball team didn't hold a lead until there was only 50 seconds left on the clock as the Huskies used a 40-25 second-half effort to defeat the Black Bears, 61-56 at the Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Black Bears to 0-5 while the Huskies improved to 3-1.
  • Guard Shaun Lawton and Marko Pirovic each had 10 points for Maine on a combined 8-of-17 shooting from the floor. 
  • As a team, the Black Bears were held to 40.4 percent shooting from the floor while connecting on 31.8 percent from the outside, and just 3-of-7 from the free-throw line.
  • Maine will be hosting the Seahawks in their home opener on December 2nd after spending the month of November on the road.
COOPER NAMED NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK (12/1/14)
  • The Northeast Conference announced on Monday that freshman guard JoJo Cooper (Wilmington, DE/Concord) was named the leagues Rookie of the Week, for the week beginning December 1. For Cooper, it is his first career NEC Rookie of the Week accolade.
  • Stepping into the point guard role vacated by three-time NEC Defensive Player of the Year, Kenneth Ortiz, Cooper comes off his best game on Saturday.  In 23 minutes of action, he netted 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from long range, and added five rebounds, three assists and a steal as the Seahawks rallied from 12 down to upend visiting Penn, 64-61.
  • Trailing by five with under six minutes to play, Cooper scored eight straight points for Wagner capped by a layup with 1:43 remaining that gave the Green & White their first lead of the day.
  • On the season, Cooper is averaging 7.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg and ranks fourth in the NEC with 4.0 apg.

  • The Seahawks will head to Easton, PA as they tangle with the Lafayette Leopards on Saturday, December 6th.  Tip-off from the Kirby Sports Center is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
