Men's Basketball Looks For Second Straight Win Today In 4:30 PM Tip-Off At Hofstra

Hempstead, NY  – The Wagner College Seahawks look for back-to-back victories when they travel to Hempstead, NY to tangle with Colonial Athletic Association member, Hofstra, today at 4:30 pm.

The contest at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex marks the 53rd all-time meeting between the two New York schools with Hofstra holding a 33-19 edge in the head-to-head matchup.

ALL-TIME AGAINST HOFSTRA 
  • This afternoon's matchup is the 53rd all-time meeting between the two schools, with Hofstra leading the head-to-head series, 33-19.
  • This series dates back to the 1945-46 season when the Green & White swept the two meetings, 52-42 and 60-52, under Hall of Fame coach Herb Sutter
  • Over the last 10 meetings, the series is tied 5-5
  • Wagner has taken the last two meetings and will look for their second straight victory at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex

SCOUTING WAGNER 
  • The Greeen & White picked up their first victory of the 2014-15 season, as they defeated SUNY Old Westbury; 83-49.
  • It was Wagner's home opener after spending the first two games at Maryland and at Columbia.
  • Senior guard Marcus Burton (Charlotte, NC/David W. Butler) registered a season-high 22 points. 
  • Freshman JoJo Cooper (Wilmington, DE/Concord) dished out a career-high 11 assists in Wagner's home-opener victory over SUNY Old Westbury.
  • Cooper's 11 assists are the most by a Seahawk since Kenneth Ortiz dished out 11 at LIU Brooklyn on January 10, 2013.
  • It is also the benchmark for the NEC this season as it is the most dished out by a freshman this season.  
    • FDU's Darian Anderson dished out nine dimes against FDU Florham back on 11/17.
  • In the 34-point victory at home against Old Westbury, Wagner's five freshmen (Corey Henson, JoJo Cooper, Aaren Edmead, Romone Saunders and Japhet Kadji) combined for 44 pointson 22-of-35 shooting.
  • The 83 points are the most the Seahawks have scored since scoring 83 against Central Connecticut in the first round of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Quarterfinals a season ago and is the third-highest total so far this season in the conference. 
  • The 12 made three-pointers are the second-highest total in the conference this year (15, FDU) while the 29 attempts are the most so far this season.
    The Green & White swiped 14 steals against Old Westbury, which is currently the highest total in the conference this season.

SCOUTING HOFSTRA
  • The Pride are 2-1 on the young season after opening the year with 94-61 victory against Jacksonville and edging Long Island rival, Stony Brook, 66-65.  
  • The only blemish on Hofstra's ledger thus far is a 12-point defeat to ACC member #RV NC State (76-64).
  • Against local rival, Stony Brook on Friday evening, Green poured in a team-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting while Nesmith finished with 18 points on 8-of-12 shootiing, which included the game-winner with 1.6 left in regulation. Tanksley chipped in 12 point and a team-high seven rebounds. 
  • Four players are averaging double-figures in scoring, led by Juan'ya Green, who leads the team at 18.3 points per game.  Dion Nesmith, who hit the game-winner against Stony Brook, is averaging 14.0 points per contest while Ameen Tanksley and Staten Island native Brian Bernardi are averaging 13.7 and 10.7 points, respectively
  • Rokas Gustys is the team's leading rebounder at 8.3 per contest while Green has dished out 5.0 assists over the first three games
