Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's soccer team battled Fairleigh Dickinson to a 1-1 draw in double overtime on Senior Day today at Hameline Field, a result that clinched the Seahawks a berth in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship for the first time since 1997 when there were only seven teams in the conference eligable.

The 2014 NEC Championship, which begins with the semifinals on Friday, November 7,  features the league's top four teams with games held at the site of the higher seed  The Green & White are currently in second place with a 4-1-2 conference mark, which gives them 14 points, while Fairleigh Dickinson is in first with a 5-1-1 conference record, good for 16 points.  Mathematically, the Seahawks still have a chance to gain the number one seed. This will mark the second time in the programs 22 year history that they will reach the NEC tournament.

Fairleigh Dickinson  took a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute when Carly Tice slipped past a few Seahawk defenders before finding the right corner of the net. The Seahawks tallied the equalizer in the 87th minute after a free kick was granted when FDU fouled Wagner right outside of the box. Junior midfielder Siara Kolpon (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills) kicked the ball towards a group of teammates in front of the goal. Sophomore defender Amber Coca (Riverview, FL / Bloomingdale) eventually controlled the ball and it and put it between the goalie's legs to make it a 1-1 game.

The two overtimes saw both teams battle for control of the ball although neither side was able to muster a winning goal.

The Knights outshot Wagner by a narrow 12-11 margin in this hotly-contested match.

Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy) recorded seven saves.

The Green & White will conclude the 2014 regular season on on Sunday, November 2 when the Seahawks travel to Sacred Heart for a 12:00 p.m. start.

Prior to today's game, the Seahawk women's soccer program honored its two graduating seniors, Marcy, and forward Alyssa Azzinaro (Staten Island, NY/ St. John Villa).
