The game was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Seahawks and Blackbirds battle for the upper hand in a match that had playoff implications involved.
With the victory, Wagner improves to a record of 8-6-2 (4-1-1 NEC) while LIU Brooklyn falls to 4-12-1 (2-3-1 NEC).
The Green & White were granted a crucial free kick from midfield in the 61st minute with junior midfielder
Siara Kolpon (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills) taking the kick. She placed the pass near junior midfielder
Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany / LSH) who slipped past the defenders to reach the ball. Konrad then cleverly headed the ball past the Blackbirds' goalkeeper in what would prove to be the game's lone goal.
"Today's game really proved how much heart and potential this team has," said Konrad. "Siara was able to play a perfect ball that I flicked past the keeper. Today was just a complete team effort that saw us come away with another key conference win."
The shot total favored Wagner this evening as the Seahawks outshot LIU Brooklyn by a count of 13-8.
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper
Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy) recorded four saves in posting her eighth shutout of the season.
The Green & White will return to action on Sunday, October 26 when they host Farleigh Dickinson in a 1:00 p.m. start.
The Wagner-FDU clash marks the final regular season home game of the year and Senior Day as the team's seniors will be recognized prior to the event.
