The Blue Devils controlled the ball for most of the contest, outshooting the Seahawks by a 17-5 count. It was the Seahawks, however, who capitalized on their opportunities, eventually netting the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute when senior forward
Alyssa Azzinaro (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) sent a well-timed pass to junior midfielder
Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany / LSH). After contolling the ball, Konrad slipped past two defenders with a quick burst before finessing the ball into the lower right-hand corner of the goal, just beyond the goalie's outstretched arms.
The Green & White survived a late Central Connecticut offensive onslaught as the Blue Devils furiously attemped to score the equalizer.
"We were able to get the three points we needed with the win today and it came against a great Central Connecticut team," said head coach
Mike Minielli. "Our defense today was the key for our victory and they played very well to keep Central Connecticut off the board. It was a typica, hard-fought conference battle that saw us edge past the other team for a good win."
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper
Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy) recorded six saves in posting her seventh shutout of the season.
The Green & White will return to action on Sunday, October 24 when they travel to LIU Brooklyn in a 6:00 p.m. start.
