Flushing Meadow, NY – Freshman
Ryan Khan (Weston, FL/ University School) was defeated by Marist junior Fredrik Bjerke 6-1, 6-2 in the first qualifying round of the
USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships, eliminating him from the competition.
Khan battled on the historic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Courts but it was Bjerke's power, combined with his match experience, that proved to be the difference as the two-time All-MAAC First Team selection advances to the next Qualifying Round.
Khan falls to 6-3 on the season and will continue to compete in the consolation portion of the tournament where the talented freshman looks to gain valuable experience against high-quality opponents.
Fellow freshman
Michal Rolski (Kielczow, Poland / Oak Meadow, VT) will begin play on Friday, October 17 in the main draw as he squares off against Saint Peter's junior Carlos Carrera. Rolski and Carrera are familiar with another as the Seahawks hosted the Peacocks back on September 28. While the Green & White recorded a
resounding 6-1 victory, it was Carrera who picked up the Peacocks' lone point, defeating Khan 6-2, 6-4 out of the one position.
