Wagner Bests St. Francis Brooklyn 6-1 In Season Opener

Wagner posted a dominating 6-1 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn in the season opener for both teams at the Wagner Tennis Courts.

The Seahawks opened the match by taking the doubles point with three convincing wins. Sophomore Nicole Vukov (Milan, Italy / Boca Prep International (FL)) and junior Kari Rezac (Wichita, KS / Maize) were victorious by an 8-2 count in action at No. 1.

At No. 2 doubles, freshmen Sarah Dioniso (East Yaphank, NY / Longwood) and Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA / Edison) combined for an 8-1 victory. Junior Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) and sophomore Jenna Harris (Fountain Hills, AZ / Fountain Hills) capped the doubles' sweep with an 8-0 blanking at No. 3.

With the Green & White up 1-0 following doubles play, Wagner left nothing to chance in taking five of the six matches during singles action. Dionisio (No. 2), Jurgielewicz (No. 4), Harris (No. 5) and Rezac (No. 6) all won by scores of 6-0, 6-0 with Pautsch (No. 3) capping the impressive singles' haul with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

The Seahawks return to action with a home match against Rider on Monday, September 30 at 3:00 pm.
