Dover, DE - The Wagner women's soccer team improved to 7-2-1 on the season with a 2-0 win over Delaware State on Friday night. Delaware State falls to 0-8.

Megan Fritz (Cape Coral, FL / Mariner) connected with junior
Sydney McCarthy (Canton, GA / Woodstock), who brought the ball deep into Hornet territory before drilling the ball into the net in the 18th minute to make it a 1-0 contest. The score would remain as such until the end of the first half.
Throughout the second half, the Seahawks' defense held strong against a handful of attacks by the Delaware State front line. The Hornets' had a chance to tie the match in the 55th minute, though Delaware's Taylor Addison sailed the ball high. Another goal wouldn't occur until the 85th minute of play, when Fritz collected her second assist of the night by connecting with charging sophomore
Johanna Konrad (Volkach, Germany / LSH) on the right wing. With the Delaware State goalkeeper stampeding towards her, Konrad skillfully knocked the ball around the remaining defense to put Wagner up 2-0. Neither team would score again before the final buzzer.
"I felt very confident about our team gaining a victory," noted McCarthy. "When I scored the first goal, I was extremely pumped and knew the momentum of that would lead us to other opportunities to score. This was a great win."
During the match, 19 Seahawks saw action. This marks goalkeeper
Katie Marcy's third shutout of the season. Overall, Wagner outshot Delaware State 19-5.
The Green & White return to action on Friday, October 4th, when they host Sacred Heart for the first NEC conference game of the season. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. kick off.
