Seahawks Conclude Regular Season Play At Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ - Wagner (17-11; 11-6 NEC) concludes the regular season with its last-ever conference game against Monmouth (10-20; 5-12 NEC), as the Hawks will join the MAAC on July 1, 2013. The game will not be available as part of the NEC Front Row platform and can be accessed for a nominal fee by clicking on the link at the top of the page. QUICK HITS

* Wagner is currently in a four-way tie for second place at 11-6 with Bryant, LIU Brooklyn and Quinnipiac. The Seahawks could finish as high as second and as low as fifth in the NEC.

* The Green & White has won 11 straight games against schools from New Jersey, with six of those victories coming by 10 points or less.

* Wagner has won each of the last four meetings between the teams, with all four being decided by 10 points or less.

* The Seahawks are 21-11 over the last two seasons in games decided by 10 points or less.

* Despite winning seven of the last eight meetings between the teams, Wagner continues to trail the all-time series by a 32-24 count.

* All-time in West Long Branch, the Seahawks are just 8-19, but have won six of the last nine meetings since losing 15 straight on the road between the 1987-1988 and 2002-2002 seasons.

* The last time the teams played their final regular season game against each other was in 2009, when Wagner defeated Monmouth 91-60 to secure the final NEC Playoff spot. Joey Mundweiler led the offensive explosion with a career-high 39 points, highlighted by 11 three pointers.

* Junior Latif Rivers is averaging 22.7 points each time out over four career match-ups against Monmouth.

* In the teams' first meeting, the Seahawks withstood a late Hawk rally thanks to sophomore Marcus Burton's last-second steal. Burton scored a game-high 15 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, off the bench while adding four assists and two steals.

* Wagner will be looking to sweep the regular season series from Monmouth for the third time in six seasons, after doing so just three times in the first 23 years of the rivalry.

* Burton started for the injured Rivers on Thursday night and has been outstanding over his last five games, averaging 13.8 points, 3.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 48.0 percent (24-of-50) from the field. Additionally in his last eight games, Burton has handed out 20 assists, against just two turnovers.

* Against FDU, Burton played a career-high 36 minutes and scored 11 points with a personal-best six steals and four assists.

* Senior Jonathon Williams led the way on offense against the Knights with a team-high 20 points while notching his fifth 20-point game of the year and the ninth of his career.

* Williams has also hit for at least 20 points in all three of his games against Fairleigh Dickinson. During that time, the California native is averaging 21.0 points per game while shooting 61.8 percent (21-of-34) from the floor.

* He has also now paced the team in scoring 14 times while hitting for double-figures 20 times. Both figures lead the team.

* Junior Orlando Parker registered a season-high matching 14 points against FDU en route to reaching 500-point milestone for his career.

* Classmate Kenneth Ortiz rounded out the double-figure scorers against the Knights with 13 points while adding seven assists.

* It was the ninth time this season that Ortiz has notched at least seven assists, with Wagner going 8-1 in those games.

* Junior Naofall Folahan blocked two shots while moving past Miladin Mutavdzic for second place in the all-time Seahawk rankings with 137. He is now just 39 behind Frantz Pierre-Louis for the top spot.

* The Green & White used their 11th different starting line-up against FDU.

* Wagner won for the 22nd time in a row when scoring at least 80 points while improving to a perfect 7-0 this season.

* The Seahawks also closed out February with a 5-3 record and is now 12-4 in the month over the last two years.

* Since moving up to the Division I ranks in 1976-1977, Wagner is just 18-31, all-time, in the month of March.

* The Seahawks are 1-4, all-time, when playing on March 2nd. The Green & White last played on the date in 1994, defeating FDU 90-81.

* Over the last two years, Wagner has combined 42 wins and 26 NEC victories, both of which are Division I program records.

* Senior Josh Thompson has now played in 118 career games, matching Mark Porter and James Ulrich for the fourth-most games played in school history.

* The Seahawks also improved to 12-2 this year and 31-2 over the last two seasons when limiting opponents to less than 70 points.

* Wagner improved to perfect 15-0 this season when leading with five minutes to play and is 40-1 over the last two seasons with the lone loss coming to Lehigh on December 10, 2011.

* Head coach Bashir Mason, who is the nation's youngest Division I coach at 29 years and 19 days, has now won 17 games, including 11 during conference play. Both totals are school-record for a first-year coach in the all-time Seahawk annals. Mason is also 5-0 this season against first-year conference coaches.

* Williams continues to lead the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) (7th NEC), rebounding (6.4 rpg) (9th NEC), field goal percentage (.526) (7th NEC) and free throw percentage (.780) (8th NEC).

* Ortiz, the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Year, has been phenomenal over his last five games, posting a 2.3 assist-turnover ratio (36 assists/16 turnovers) with 11.6 points, 7.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game.

* On the year, the Garden State native ranks among the league leaders in scoring (11.9 ppg) (18th NEC), assists (5.3 apg) (3rd NEC) (46th NCAA) and steals (2.0 spg) (61st NCAA). Ortiz also has two-game winning shots this season and four for his career.

* Rivers is averaging a team-best 16.6 points per game over his last nine games while shooting 49.5 percent (49-for-99) from the field and 50.0 percent (24-for-48) from long range. Over his first nine games of the year, Rivers notched just 9.8 points per game on 34.1 percent shooting from the field (29-for-85) and long range (14-for-41).

* Over his two-plus years on Grymes Hill, Rivers has also hit for 20 points 14 times, including four times this season, and is 30th on the all-time Seahawk scoring list with 1,105 career points.

* During NEC play, Wagner is averaging 74.9 points per game on 47.5 percent shooting from the field and 36.2 percent from long range. During non-conference play, the Seahawks notched just 58.4 points per game on 38.2 percent shooting, including 27.6 percent from deep.

* Wagner is second among NEC in the most recent RPI rankings at No. 129 while Monmouth is 11th at No. 266. Robert Morris the top conference team, checking in at 128.

* The Seahawks continue to lead the NEC and rank among the national leaders in blocks (5.3) (19th NCAA) and field goal percentage defense (.410) (94th NCAA), while also placing among the top-100 in steals (8.3) (42nd NCAA) and rebounding margin (+3.6) (78th NCAA).

* Wagner's No. 19 national ranking in blocked shots (5.3/game) has been fueled by a school-record 147 rejections, which have come primarily from the trio of Folahan (1.5 bpg) (2nd NEC/114th NCAA), sophomore Mario Moody (1.3 bpg) (4th NEC/170th NCAA) and Parker (0.8 bpg) (11th NEC).
