Box Score

Kissimmee, FL – The Wagner College softball team fell to Butler, 6-2, on Thursday afternoon at the Osceola County Softball Complex. In the defeat, the Seahawks fall to 2-12, while the Bulldogs improve to 8-11.

Wagner jumped in front in the opening frame, tallying an unearned run. Sophomore Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood) opened the inning with a walk, and advanced on a bunt single by senior Carley Nicoletti (Plainville, NY/ CW Baker). Freshman Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ/ Centennial) successfully sacrificed the runners over, putting Parker in position to score on a passed ball in the following at-bat.

Butler jumped ahead in the bottom of the third, scoring two unearned runs without the benefit of a hit. The damage was minimized by Beasley, who made a running, over-the-shoulder catch on the go-ahead sacrifice fly, as only one run scored in the bases-loaded situation.

The Bulldog lead would only last for a moment, as the Seahawks answered back the following half-inning. On the first pitch of the top of the fourth, junior Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV/ Galena) slugged a home run to left field, knotting the game at two.

Butler retook the lead on a two-out infield single in the fifth, jumping ahead, 3-2.The Bulldogs would add three more two-out runs for a 6-2 advantage.

Senior Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA/ Broad Run) went the distance for the Seahawks, striking out a season-high six. Parker walked three times in the contest, a career-best.

The Seahawks return to action Thursday evening with a game against Lehigh.
