Kissimmee, FL – The Wagner College softball team fell to Youngstown State, 10-2, on Tuesday morning at the Osceola County Softball Complex. In the defeat, the Seahawks fall to 2-10, while the Penguins improve to 2-9.
After Youngstown State jumped ahead with a run in the bottom of the first, Wagner answered back in the top of the second. Freshman
Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ/ Centennial) led off the frame by lining a 1-1 pitch over the wall in center field for her first collegiate home run, knotting the game at one.
The Penguins would retake the lead in the bottom of the frame before the Seahawks tied the game back up in the top of the third. Sophomore
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood) led off the inning with a double, and was driven home on a double two pitches later off the bat of junior
Hayley Sullivan (Bakersfield, CA/ North).
Youngstown State would grab another in the bottom of the third, with Wagner avoiding further trouble after the Penguins made the third out of the inning on the base paths for the second consecutive inning. YSU would add four more in the fifth for a 7-2 advantage. The Penguins added three more in the sixth for the final 10-2 margin.
The Seahawks are back in action for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader when they play Utah Valley.
