Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Mt. Pleasant, SC – The Wagner College softball team was defeated Sunday in a pair of games in the final day of the C of C Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. The Seahawks were defeated by Radford, 8-1, in the first game before losing to the host Cougars, 3-2, in game two. Following the doubleheader, Wagner's record falls to 0-4.

The Seahawks' morning contest against Radford started out with the Green & White in an early hole, as a seven-run first inning gave the Highlanders a solid lead. Radford added another run in the third inning for an 8-0 advantage.

Wagner was able to get on the board in the fourth inning by capitalizing on a pair of Radford errors. Sophomore Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood) reached on an error to begin the inning, and advanced to second when senior Brittany Huss (Anthem, AZ/ Boulder Creek) made it to first safely on the second error of the inning. After a groundout moved the runners over, freshman Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ/ Centennial) drove in Parker for the lone Seahawk run of the contest.

Senior Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA/ Broad Run) made the start for Wagner, giving way to sophomore Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ/ Sandra Day O'Connor) after 1/3 of an inning. Bedker held the Highlanders to one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three over 6 2/3 innings.

In the day's second game, the Seahawks jumped ahead off the bat of junior Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV/ Galena), whose two-run first inning home run also plated freshman Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) to give Wagner a 2-0 lead.

The Cougars would tie the game with a pair of two-out runs in the fourth inning before pulling ahead in the following frame for the final 3-2 margin.

Sophomore Olivia Zwick (Surrey, British Columbia/ Earl Marriott) went the first 5 1/3 innings for the Seahawks, surrendering three runs on six hits while striking out three. Betz entered for the final two outs, retiring both batters she faced.

The Seahawks return to action on Friday, Mar. 8, when Wagner faces Central Michigan and Chattanooga to open the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, FL.
