Wagner Falls to Saint Francis U 2-1

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's soccer team dropped at 2-1 decision to Saint Francis U this afternoon at Hameline Field. Wagner is now 8-3-1 on the season, and 1-1-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while Saint Francis U improves to 6-6-1 on the season, and 2-0-0 in NEC conference play.

The Red Flash opened the scoring, when Barbara Maros de Carvalho's low cross found Ellie Gavin in front of the net in the 14th minute. Gavin was able to knock the ball past Wagner goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY/John F. Kennedy) to give Saint Francis U a 1-0 lead.

Saint Francis U scored again in the 62nd minute of play, when Mackenzie Walter fed a high cross to Julia Gembry, who headed the ball past the goal line to make it a 2-0 contest in favor of The Red Flash.

In the 81st minute, sophomore Samantha Jensen (Ocean Gate, NJ / Central Regional) tallied Wagner's only point, successfully commanding the ball around a pair of defenders before blasting a shot into the high corner of the net to bring the score to 2-1. Wagner was unable to get on the board again before time expired.

During the match, 19 Seahawks saw action. Marcy made five saves.

This was Jensen's fourth goal of the weekend, after scoring three goals in Wagner's 5-3 victory over Sacred Heart (10/4). Jensen not only leads the Seahawk squad in goals (6), but also in points (12).

The Green & White return to action on Friday, October 11th, when they travel to Mount St. Mary's for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.
