West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth clipped Wagner 4-3 in the final match of the fall season for the Seahawks at the MU Tennis Courts. The teams split the six singles matches with the homestanding Hawks coming out on top by virtue of taking two of the three doubles matches to secure the deciding point.
Wagner falls to 3-3 with the loss while Monmouth improves to 2-5.
In doubles play, the Hawks won at No. 1 and No. 2 while the duo of junior
Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) and sophomore
Jenna Harris (Fountain Hills, AZ / Fountain Hills) posted an 8-5 victory at third flight doubles. With the win, the duo concludes the fall season with a perfect 4-0 record.
During singles play, freshman
Sarah Dionisio (East Yaphank, NY / Longwood) collected her first career victory at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 while wrapping up her first fall campaign with a stellar 4-2 record. Sophomore
Nicole Vukov (Milan, Italy / Boca Prep International (FL)) collected her first win of the season at No. 2 after her opponent retired with Vukov leading 5-2 in the first set.
Rounding out the victors for the Seahawks was junior
Kari Rezac (Wichita, KS / Maize), who posted an easy 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Wagner will return to action in the spring on Sunday, March 9 at La Salle.
