Staten Island, NY - The Seahawk women's tennis defeated Rider by an impressive 6-1 score at the Wagner Tennis Courts to improve to a perfect 2-0 on the season.
For the second-straight match, the Green & White captured the doubles point before rolling to wins in five of the six singles matches.
Freshmen
Sarah Dionisio (East Yaphank, NY / Longwood) and
Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA / Edison) posted an easy 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles while junior
Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) and sophomore
Jenna Harris (Fountain Hills, AZ / Fountain Hills) notched an 8-3 win at third doubles to secure the first point of the match.
In singles action, Dionisio captured a hard-fought 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 to improve to 2-0 on the year. Also winning for the second-straight match to start her collegiate career was Pautsch at third singles, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Jurgielewicz breezed to an easy 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 while Harris claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 as both players moved to 2-0 on the season.
Rounding out the victors was freshman
Cassidy Lessard (Jamesport, NY / McGann-Mercy), who claimed her first collegiate singles win by a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) count at No. 6.
Wagner returns to action on Saturday, October 5 when the Seahawks host Saint Peter's at 12:00 pm.
