Box Score Loretto, PA – The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to Northeast Conference (NEC) foe Saint Francis U, 80-43, on Saturday afternoon at DeGol Arena. In the defeat, the Seahawks fall to 2-16, and 1-6 in NEC games, while the Red Flash improves to 10-8 and 5-2 in league games.
Freshman
Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/ Shaker Heights) was one of three Seahawks in double-figures, posting a team-high 12 points. Senior
Veronick Fournier (Gatineau, Quebec/ Montmorency) and sophomore
Stephanie Blais (Sherbrooke, Quebec/ Montmorency) each added 11 points, while Fournier grabbed a team-best and career-best nine rebounds and tied a career-high with three steals.
The Red Flash opened the first half on a 12-0 run before the Seahawks went on a 12-4 spurt over 3:52 to cut the deficit to 16-12 with 8:22 remaining in the opening stanza. The run was highlighted by four points by Fournier.
Following the under-eight-minute media timeout, Saint Francis went on a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 23-12 with 6:26 to play in the half. Wagner answered back with five more points from Fournier to make it 24-17 SFU with 5:28 to go. From there, the Red Flash closed the half on a 16-4 run, as Alexa Hayward's three-pointer, just shy of the halftime buzzer, sent the teams into the locker room with a 40-21 Saint Francis lead.
In the second half, Blais and Peck combined for 18 of the 22 Seahawk points with Blais tying a season-high mark by knocking down five free throws.
Senior
Chanez Robinson (Newark, NJ/ Malcolm X. Shabazz) scored five points while playing 10 minutes in her first game since Dec. 29.
Alli Williams led the Red Flash with 19 points, while Nickia Gibbs and Rebecca Keegan each had 10 for SFU.
The Seahawks return to action on Monday, Jan. 28, when the Green & White face Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD at 7:00 pm.
