Samantha Jensen (Ocean Gate, NJ / Central Regional) and senior
Jonathon Williams (Richmond, CA / Kennedy / City College of San Francisco) have been named as the
Bridge Financial Group Wagner College Athletes of the Month for December.
Jensen played a key role in helping the Seahawks to a second-place finish at the Fordham Season Opener in the Bronx, NY on December 8. On that day, the Garden State native ran to a first-place tie in the 60 meters, finishing in 7.6 seconds while also placing first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.6 seconds. Jensen continued her productive day by placing third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.9. The Seahawks opened their season on December 1 at the Monmouth Invitational and Jensen quickly made her presence felt, finishing in second in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 8.08 seconds. Also a member of the Green & White soccer team, she played in 17 games, with five starts, in the fall.
Williams averaged a team-best 13.4 points per game while also pulling down 7.6 rebounds each time out while shooting 49.0 percent (24-for-49) from the floor, 50.0 percent (3-for-6) from long range and 80.0 percent (16-for-20) from the line as Wagner went 4-2 in December. Williams earned
Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week after recording a career-high 33 points and 17 rebounds in the Seahawks' 77-65 overtime victory over Coppin State (12/15). He also became one of just eight Northeast Conference players to record a 30-point, 15-rebound outing in the last 16 years. Williams then earned Cable Car Classic All-Tournament Team honors for the second-straight year. In Wagner's tournament opening 63-53 victory over SMU (12/21), the Golden State native scored a team-best 13 points . He then pulled down seven rebounds to go along with four points in the Championship Game against Santa Clara (12/22). Williams began the month with a team-best 15 points and six rebounds at Temple (12/1). On the year, he is averaging a team-best 15.7 points (7th NEC) and 7.7 rebounds (4th NEC) per game.
