Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Bryant in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener for both teams at Hameline Field. With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-7 (0-1 NEC) while the Bulldogs improve to 6-4 (1-0 NEC).
The two teams played a scoreless first half, aided by five saves from sophomore goalkeeper
Maureen Vetter (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield). Vetter played all 90 minutes in her first start between the posts at the collegiate level.
Bryant opened the scoring in the 65th minute, as the Bulldogs' Rachael Ivanicki found Shana Follette from 20 yards out, before Follette blasted a shot past Vetter for the game's first goal. Three minutes later, Bryant doubled the lead, as Ivanicki passed to Regan Marin, who chipped in a shot from 25 yards out, providing the final 2-0 margin.
Vetter finished the match with seven saves, while the Bulldogs' Lauren Viverito (6-4) stopped all four shots she faced.
Wagner returns to action on Friday, September 28, as the Seahawks travel to the Nutmeg State for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with Sacred Heart.
