Easton, PA – The Wagner College women's soccer team was defeated by Lafayette, 4-0, in the team's final non-conference match of 2012 on Sunday at Oaks Stadium in Easton, PA. With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-6, while the Leopards improve to 3-4-1.
Lafayette scored their first goal in the 12th minute, as Nicole Lee put the Leopards on the board, off assists from Alyssa Finelli and Jill Dozier. Finelli added to the lead less than three minutes later, as she found the back of the net on a scramble in front of the goal.
In the 30th minute, the Leopards increased the lead, as Anna Wissler found Jaclyn Giordano for a shot that was squeezed inside the far post to make it 3-0. The fourth and final Lafayette goal came on a penalty kick, as Dozier made it a four-point day with a tally in the 81st minute.
Wagner sophomore
Lisa Capelli (Manalapan, NJ/ Red Bank Catholic) played the first half for the Green & White, making one save. She was replaced in the second half by sophomore
Maureen Vetter (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield), who made three saves in the game's final 45 minutes. The appearance in goal by Vetter was the first of her collegiate career, after appearing in 10 games as a field player as a freshman in 2011. Vetter split time between goal and the field while in high school at Brookfield.
The Seahawks return to action on Friday, September 21, when Wagner hosts Bryant in both teams' NEC opener. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
