Wagner Drops 5-0 Decision To Monmouth At The NEC Tennis Championship

No. 9 Wagner dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 8 Monmouth in an outbracket match of the 2012 Northeast Conference (NEC) Tennis Championship at Mercer County Park. The Seahawks (2-15) will now face No. 10 St. Francis (NY) in the ninth place match later this afternoon.

MU won the doubles point by virtue of capturing the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. At the conclusion of play, the Green & White's No. 2 team of freshmen Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) and Julie Teichman (Plymouth Meeting, PA / Germantown Academy) were winning their match by a 5-4 count.

The Hawks then captured the team win with victories at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. When the match was called, Teichman was up 1-0 at No. 5 singles, having won her first set, 6-2. Jurgielewicz, meanwhile, was winning 4-2 in the first set.
