Miami Dolphins Name Former Wagner Player, Coach Defensive Backs Coach

Staten Island, NY – Former Wagner College football player and assistant coach Lou Anarumo has been named defensive backs coach for the Miami Dolphins.
 
A Staten Island native, Anarumo  earned his B.S. degree in special education from Wagner in 1990. While in college, he served as head junior varsity coach at his high school alma mater, Susan Wagner High School, where he played quarterback. He also served as assistant running backs coach for Walt Hameline and the Seahawks in 1990.
 
“I'm thrilled for Lou and his family,” said Hameline. “It always makes you feel proud when one of your former players and coaches rise through the ranks. In Lou's case, he played and coached here at Wagner, so it's very special. The NFL is obviously the pinnacle and I wish him all the best.”
 
Anarumo comes to Miami after serving eight seasons as the defensive backs coach at Purdue University, where he helped develop a host of All-Conference and All-American selections. Most recently. in 2011, Boilermaker cornerback Ricardo Allen was named a Second-Team All-Big 10 selection for the second consecutive year.

Anarumo joined the Purdue staff following three seasons at Marshall, where he coached the defensive backs from 2001 to 2003. He also served as special teams coordinator in 2003. While in charge of the secondary at Marshall, the Thundering Herd ranked in the top 10 nationally twice in passing defense, 10th in 2003 and sixth in 2002. Prior to his stint at Marshall, Anarumo was assistant head coach at Harvard from 1995 to 2000, working with the defensive backs and coordinating the special teams. During his tenure, he helped build a pass defense regarded among the best in the Ivy League as the Crimson led the league in pass efficiency defense in 1999 and ranked second in interceptions in 2000.
 
From 1992 to 1994, Anarumo was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Prior to his stint there, Anarumo was a graduate assistant coach at Syracuse during the 1990 and 1991 seasons.
