Smithfield, RI - Led by junior
Alexis Bivona's (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) 20th-place finish, the Seahawk women's cross country team placed eighth out of 11 teams at the 5K Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship on the campus of Bryant University.
Quinnipiac scored a meet-low 46 points to edge out Nutmeg State rival Sacred Heart, which notched 54 points, for the team title. The host Bulldogs took third (82 points), followed by Monmouth (117 points), Central Connecticut (140 points), Mount St. Mary's (163 points), Robert Morris (167 points), Wagner (202 points), Saint Francis (PA) (217 points), St. Francis (NY) (242 points) and Fairleigh Dickinson (314 points).
Bryant's Eimear Black won the individual championship with a time of 17:34.29.
Bivona recorded a team-best time of 18:51.27 in placing 20th, followed by her former high school teammate senior
Kelly Dennis (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) in 38th (19:28.12).
Classmate
Taylor Fredrickson (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) was the third member of the Green & White to finish, crossing the line in 50th (19:58.47).
Rounding out the Wagner scorers were sophomore
Heather Wolf (Pine Brook, NJ / Montville Township) and freshman
Danielle Iacampo (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) in 55th (20:06.54) and 57th (20:09.00), respectively.
The Seahawks return to action on Friday, November 9 with the 6K NCAA Regional Championship at
Hammonasset Park.
