West Long Branch, NJ - Wagner concluded the fall portion of its schedule with a narrow 4-2 loss to Monmouth in Northeast Conference (NEC) action at the MU Tennis Courts. In defeat, the Seahawks see their record evened at 2-2 (1-1 NEC) while the Hawks improve to 2-7 (1-3 NEC).

The Green & White surged out of the gates by claiming the doubles point, thanks to winning two of out of the three matches. At No. 1 the tandem of sophomore
Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) and freshman
Nicole Vukov (Milan, Italy / Boca Prep International (FL)) bested Nicole Lippens and Brooke Verdiglione by a score of 8-6. Senior
Nikki Arnold (Bethlehem, PA / Liberty) and
Julia Teichman (Plymouth Meeting, PA / Germantown Academy) then secured the point when the Keystone State connection defeated Liz D'Arcy and Sarah Turner by an identical 8-6 count.
Monmouth would rally to take four of the five singles matches to claim the match by a 4-2 count. Teichman again stood out on singles with a decisive 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sarah Turner at No. 5, while improving to a perfect 4-0 on the year. Sophomore
Lauren Hauer (North Attleboro, MA / North Attleboro) won the first set at No. 6 by a 6-4 score, before losing the second set 6-3 when the match was called due to darkness.
"It was an outstanding fall season as the girls really came together and had a tremendous start to the year," added Sopel. "We are excited for the spring season to start and will continue to keep working hard."
Wagner begins the spring portion of its schedule against Manhattan on February 24 at 1:00 pm.
