College Park, MD – Wagner water polo finished the 2012 opening weekend at the Terrapin Invitational with a tough 10-2 loss against the No. 20 hosting Terps of the University of Maryland. Falling earlier in the tournament to No. 15 UC San Diego and No. 8 San Diego State, Wagner's difficult opening schedule leaves the Seahawks with an 0-3 record.
Starting the match with solid defense holding the home team scoreless until the 5:36 mark, the Green & White tied the game 1-1 with a
Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA / Wilson) goal with more than half of the quarter remaining to play. Maryland's Allison Campbell then put the Terps up by two after hitting back-to-back goals near the conclusion of the first stanza to set the score at 3-1.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Seahawks remained focused on defense allowing only one man-up Maryland goal following a
Molly Robinson (Lansdale, PA / North Penn) exclusion as the score settled at 4-1 at the break.
After the half, Maryland went on a 3-0 run hitting three man-up goals following two
Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA / North Penn) exclusions and another Robinson ejection. Leading into the final quarter, the Terps had control of the scoreboard 7-1.
The final eight minutes saw three more Maryland scoring plays and a last minute goal by Beck. The hosting Terrapins captured the victory with a final score of 10-2.

Laura Karbach (Abington, PA / Germantown Academy) recorded eight saves as Maryland's Rachel Stein had two and Shelby Reyes registered one.

Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) with two each. Senior

Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA / Davis) each have a tally of their own. Karbach currently stands with 21 saves.
The Seahawks are back in action February 4-5
th at the Pacific Invite in Stockton, CA. The Green & White open West Coast play on Saturday when they take on Azuza Pacific at 10:00 AM and Cal State Easy Bay at 3:00 PM. On Sunday, the Seahawks challenge home team Pacific at 8:00 AM and concludes the trip with a 12:30 PM match with Sonoma State.
