Staten Island, NY -
LIU Brooklyn snapped Wagner's eight-game winning streak with a 73-66 victory before a school-record crowd of 2,412 and a nationally televised audience on ESPNU at the Spiro Sports Center. In defeat, the Seahawks fall to 15-4 and 6-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Blackbirds improve to 14-6 and 8-0 in the league.

The announced crowd of 2,412 snaps the previous record of 2,327, which was recorded on March 12, 2003 in the school's NEC Championship Game victory over St. Francis (NY).

Sophomore Latif Rivers (Elizabeth, NJ / Avon Old Farms (CT)) led four double-digit scorers for the Green & White with 17 points and six rebounds while freshman Mario Moody (East Orange, NJ / East Orange Campus) recorded his second double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

LIU Brooklyn sprinted out of the gates, converting five of its first six shots en route to opening up a 13-4 lead at the 17:20 mark of the first half. Wagner immediately responded with eight-straight points on this layup from junior Jonathon Williams (Richmond, CA / Kennedy / CC of San Francisco) followed by this three pointer from Rivers and this one from senior Tyler Murray (Toronto, Ontario / Eastern Commerce), cutting the deficit to 13-12 with 15:40 to play.

The Blackbirds would extend the lead back out to six at 20-14 with 13:31 until halftime with a 7-2 spurt before the Seahawk defense came to life. Over the next eight plus minutes, Wagner put the clamps on the visitors, holding LIU Brooklyn to just 1-of-11 shooting from the floor. The Seahawk offense did its part in ripping off a 15-5 run, giving the Green & White a 29-25 lead with 5:19 to play until halftime, capped by a pair of Chris Martin (Sr., Sicklerville, NJ / Apex Academies) layups (first one / second one).

Booker Hucks snapped the Blackbird funk with a three pointer, sparking a 11-2 spurt that reclaimed the lead for the visitors at 36-31 before freshman Moody threw down this monster dunk off a pretty pass from Rivers, trimming the deficit to 36-33 at the half.

In the first half, Wagner converted a solid 48.1 percent (13-27) from the floor while limiting LIU Brooklyn to just 40.0 percent (12-30) shooting, highlighted by pressuring the visitors into just 4-of-17 shooting (.235) over the final 13:31 of the stanza. The Blackbirds managed to take the halftime lead thanks winning the battle of the glass by a 20-14 count, including 7-2 on the offensive end, which led to a 5-0 advantage in second-chance points.

In the second stanza, the Seahawks scored the first four points en route to the a half-opening 6-2 run, which led to a 39-38 lead with 16:40 to play in the game. Jamal Olasewere reclaimed the lead for LIU Brooklyn with a three-point play as the Blackbirds rattled off 10-straight points in assuming a 48-39 lead at the 13:14 mark of the second.  After Williams answered with a layup, Julian Boyd sank three free throws, helping the Blackbirds open up their largest lead of the game at 51-41 with just under 12 minutes to play.

Wagner would continue to fight and cut the deficit to four on two occasions, only to see the visitors answer both times. The Seahawks then appeared poised to strike in the game's final four minutes when Rivers trimmed the deficit to five at 62-57 with 3:25 to play on a long three pointer. The Green & White then forced a errant shot, but could not convert on the other end as Boyd made a three-possession game with just under two minutes to play with a dunk as the visitors held on for the 73-66 victory.

LIU Brooklyn shot just 38.1 percent (8-21) in the decisive half, but converted on 84.0 percent (21-25) from the line, while forcing Wagner into a season-low 28.1 percent (11-39) from the floor after halftime, including just 1-of-10 from long range. The Seahawks were a force on the offensive glass in the second half, outrebounding the visitors by a 15-4 count, which led to a 17-2 advantage in second-chance points. Pacing the effort was Moody, who had 10 points and six rebounds (4 offensive) after halftime.

For the game, Boyd led both teams with game-highs in points (19) and rebounds (15) while Olasewere scored 13 of his 18 points after halftime.
