Men's Golf Opens Season With 15th Place Finish At Rutgers

The Seahawks men's golf team opened up their fall season placing 15th at the Rutgers Invitational being played on Rutgers home course in Piscataway, NJ.

Both senior Steve Nakajima (Delta British Columbia, Canada / Delta Secondary School) and sophomore Jason Hopkins (Menifee, CA / Paloma Valley) posted three rounds in the 70's with Nakajima finishing tied for 20th individually with scores of 73-77-74 and Hopkins shooting a 78-79-79 for 57th place.

Fellow sophomores Tommy Arison (Fairlawn, OH / Archbishop Hoban High) and Jan Saroch (Prague, Czech Republic / Gymnazium Jiriho Gutha-Jarkovskeho) finished just four shots apart with Arison putting up scores of 81-81-83, and Saroch scoring 80-84-85. The two second-years finished 71st and 75th, respectively.

Freshman Kyle Sullivan (Stony Point, NY / Albertus Magnus) rounded out the five-man team for the Seahawks, shooting 86-86-89 in his first collegiate action.

USC Upstate won the 16-team event by 21 strokes over Saint Peter's with a score of 854.

Wagner will compete next at the ECAC Championship Tournament in Egg Harbor, NJ, beginning on September 30.
