BOX SCORE

Staten Island, NY -
Monmouth handed Wagner a 5-1 loss in women's tennis action at the Wagner Tennis Courts. Sophomore Catharine Scavelli (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph Hill) led the way for the Green & White, winning her third-straight match and her team-best fourth of the year.

Scavelli picked up the Seahawks' lone win of the day in dramatic fashion, winning the first set by a scant 7-6 margin before putting away Courtney Ciandella by a 6-4 score in the second set. Freshman Diana Ciavarella (Brooklyn, NY / Fontbonne Hall Academy) almost captured her match at No. 5 singles, losing the first set 7-6 before winning the second by a 6-3 count to tie up the match. Unfortunately, Alyssa Teehan won the third set and ultimately the match by a 7-6 score.

The teams did not play doubles due to the inclement weather.

Wagner falls to 2-9 and 2-5 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while Monmouth improves to 4-9 and 2-3 in the NEC.

The Seahawks return to action today at Rider with first volley slated for 2:00 pm.
