Men's Golf Finishes Seventh In Final Event Before NEC Championships

Junior Steve Nakajima (Delta British Columbia, Canada / Delta Secondary School) led the Wagner College men's golf team to a seventh place finish at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational being held at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Littlestown, PA.

Nakajima's plus-three 75 in the tournament's first round paved the way for an eight-over 224 in the three-round event. Nakajima shot fired a one-over 73 in the second round of day one before posting a four-over 76 in Tuesday's last 18. With the three round score of 224, Nakajima finished eighth in the 56-player field, recording his best individual finish of the year.

Freshmen Tommy Arison (Fairlawn, OH / Archbishop Hoban High) and Jason Hopkins (Menifee, CA / Paloma Valley) posted a 240 and a 245, respectively, in their three rounds, with Arison finishing in 31st place, highlighted by his second round score of 76. Hopkins, who finished in a tie for 37th place, had his best round of the tournament on the final day, scoring a plus-eight 80 to wrap up the event.

Jan Saroch (Prauge, Czech Republic / Gymnazium Jiriho Gutha-Jarkovskeho) and Eric Mathias (Martinsburg, WV / Martinsburg) rounded out the five-member squad for the Seahawks, as Saroch's posted an 82-78-92 to cap of a plus-36 score of 252. Mathias had scores of 85-92-84 for his 261.

Wagner's four-player score of 953 placed them in seventh place at the conclusion of their final tournament before the Northeast Conference Championships, trailing the winner, Monmouth, by 57 shots.

The Seahawks head to Orlando, FL, on April 29th to begin the first round of the NEC Championships.
