West Windsor, NJ - The No. 9 Wagner men's tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to No. 8 St. Francis (NY) in an outbracket match at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Tennis Championship at the Mercer County Tennis Center.
In deat the Seahawks end their season with a record of 0-14 while SFNY improved to 7-14.
In doubles play, the combination of freshmen
Danil Ovechkin (Staten Island, NY / Pendleton School (FL)) and
David Garzon (Guttenberg, NJ / Memorial) bested Tita Mba and Danlahdi Robinson by an 8-3 count. Unfortunately, the Terriers would go on to capture the doubles point after winning at No. 2 and No. 3.
SFNY then took the match with convincing wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Despite joining the team in the second semester, Ovechkin led the Wagner attack while posting a team-best four wins against just one loss and is one of six letterwinners returning next season.
