No. 9 Wagner Drops 4-0 Decision To No. 10 St. Francis (NY) At The NEC Championship

The No. 9 Wagner women's tennis team fell to No. 10 St. Francis (NY) by a 4-0 score in the ninth place match at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Tennis Championship at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

SFNY finishes up the season with a 2-15 record while the Seahawks end the 2010-2011 campaign with a mark of 2-13.

The Terriers won the doubles point by virtue of earning a forfeit win at No. 3 before Ewa Opala and Arianna Val Sluytman defeated sophomore Nikki Arnold (Bethlehem, PA / Liberty) and junior Julie Jebran (Bethlehem, PA / Bethlehem Catholic) 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, SFNY was victorious at No. 1 and No. 2 while winning via forfeit at No. 6. Arnold lost 6-0, 6-3 to Opala at No. 1 while Val Sluytman bested Jebran 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.

Junior Sabrina DiLeo (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) was winning 6-0, 4-0 at No. 4 and freshman Diana Ciavarella (Brooklyn, NY / Fontbonne Hall Academy) was winning 6-0, 1-0 at No. 5 singles when the match was decided.

Freshman Catharine Scavelli (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph Hill) led the team this season with four wins during singles play.
