Women's Tennis Posts Dominating 7-0 Win Over St. Francis (NY)

The Wagner women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season in impressive fashion against St. Francis (NY) yesterday at the Wagner Tennis Courts. The Seahawks swept all six singles and three doubles matches en route to a decisive 7-0 victory.

The Green & White claimed the match's first point thanks to winning all three doubles matches. Freshmen Lauren Hauer (North Attleboro, MA / North Attleboro) and Julie Teichman (Plymouth Meeting, PA / Germantown Academy) got things rolling with an easy 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Senior Sabrina DiLeo (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore Diana Ciavarella (Brooklyn, NY / Fontbonne Hall Academy) clinched the doubles point with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 before freshman Rachel Jurgielewicz (Downington, PA / Downington East) and junior Nikki Arnold (Bethlehem, PA / Liberty) capped the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 1.

With a 1-0 lead heading into the singles portion of the match, Wagner made sure nothing was left to chance. Hauer broke through first with an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Teichman followed with an equally impressive 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Jurgielewicz secured the team victory of the Seahawks with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at first singles.

Despite having the match decided, the Green & White continued to impress. Arnold was victorious via scores of 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles before Ciavarella won via shutout, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 5, DiLeo finalized the 7-0 victory with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

Wagner returns to action on Monday, October 10 against Saint Peter's with a 2:00 pm match.
