Box Score
Staten Island, NY - Sacred Heart scored the game's only goal with 2:09 remaining in the first half before holding off a frantic Wagner rally in the second half en route to a 1-0 victory in a hard-fought game at the Wagner College Stadium.
In defeat, the Seahawks fall to 9-6-2 and 3-5-0 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Pioneers improve to 8-4-3 and 4-2-1 in league play.
Standing out for the Green & White was sophomore goalkeeper
Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy), who made nine saves.
The one shot Marcy could not stop came from Jen Mulvey in the game's 42nd minute. The Sacred Heart midfielder took a pass from Mikaela Wolf and chipped the ball in from just over 10 yards out over a charging Marcy.
Mulvey almost scored again on a header in the 13th minute of the second half but Marcy corralled the Pioneer's slicing header.
In the game's 80th minute Wagner appeared on the cusp of tying the game up. Junior
Katie Keown (Morris Plains, NJ / Morristown) threw the ball in to classmate
Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ / Pascack Hills) on the right side of Sydney Judkins, the Pioneer goalie, but her header attempt went painfully wide.
The Seahawks had one last chance to knot the game up but junior
Julie Vigliotti's (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) shot attempt was wide right in the game's 85th minute.
From that point on, Sacred Heart managed to run out the clock while preserving the victory.
A physical affair from the onset, each team committed six fouls, including five by the Green & White in the second half. The Pioneers outshot the Seahawks 15-4, including 9-0 on shots on goal.
Marcy falls to 9-6-1 on the season while Judkins improves to 6-3-3.
