Box Score

Dover, DE –
The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped its third straight game, falling to Delaware State, 3-1, in this afternoon's non-conference contest in Dover, DE.

While the Seahawks outshot Delaware State 7-4 in the first half, it was the Hornets that scored the games first two goals. Jeanette Salgado netted the first for Delaware State in the 18th minute, and Theresa Wappett connected off a throw-in 20 minutes later, to give the home team the 2-0 lead heading into the second half.

Freshman Jackie Nicholas (Rockville Centre, NY) brought the Seahawks within a goal in the 60th minute, after she took a pass from Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ) and tore a shot into the right corner of the net for her third goal of the season.

The Hornets picked up an insurance goal with seven minutes remaining in regulation when Darcy Pelz-Butler capitalized on a free-kick opportunity to seal the victory.

Wagner goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY) made eight saves on the day, while Delaware States Courtney Haas recorded 12 stops in the win. The Hornets win marks their first of the year, and first since September 14, 2009 when they beat the Virginia Military Academy.

The Seahawks, who drop to 4-5 on the season, will be back in action at Long Island University on Friday, September 24, before starting a three-game home set.
