Seahawks Soccer Falls To Drexel 4-1

Box Score

Philadelphia, PA –
Wagner sophomore Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY) scored her fifth goal of the season, but the visiting Seahawks fell to Drexel, 4-1, in Sunday's non-conference contest in Philadelphia, PA.

The Drexel Dragons came out in the first half, pressuring the Seahawk backline, earning multiple free-kick opportunities. The Dragons first goal of the opening half came in the 26th minute off a corner kick that snuck by Wagner goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY). Just 56 seconds later, Drexel was awarded another free kick after a player was taken down just outside the box. Drexel's Courtney Wylie deflected a shot by Kim Chiarelli past Marcy, to give the home team an early 2-0 lead.

Drexel added to its lead early in the second half after Jenna Lindsay, who was the Dragons leading scorer a year ago, cut around a Seahawk defender and fired a shot past Marcy for a 3-0 lead.

Vigliotti finally broke the Dragons momentum in the 57th minute when she intercepted a clearing attempt by the defense and broke in on Drexel goalie Nicole Sinclair. Vigliotti carefully placed her shot into the lower left corner, netting her fifth goal in four games. The NEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week from a week ago has now scored in four straight games for the Green and White.

Vigliotti's lone goal wasn't enough to spark a comeback for the Seahawks, as they allowed the Dragons fourth and final goal of the game in the 84th minute. Jess Starkisian was on the offensive end of Drexel's last goal, as they move 3-3 overall on the year, while Wagner drops to 4-3 overall.

The Seahawks will look to continue their home win streak this Friday, September 17, as they host Rider at Wagner Stadium. Kick off for that contest is set for 4:00 PM.
