Senior Keith Davis had seven tackles and a sack
FINAL STATS

Worcester, MA -
Assumption (2-0) scored 24 points in the first half before holding off a late-charging Wagner (0-1) squad in the second half en route to a 24-9 victory in the Seahawks' season-opener at the Greyhounds' Multi-Purpose Field.

Assumption dominated the first half, scoring 24 answered points after Wagner took the early lead on sophomore David Lopez's(Plantation, FL / American Heritage) career-best 44 yard field goal. Lopez's field goal capped an 11-play, 43-yard drive that took 6:03 off the clock. The kick was the first field goal by a Seahawk over 40 yards since former Baltimore Raven and Pittsburgh Steeler Piotr Czech connected for a 50-yard make against Jacksonville on November 17, 2007.

The Seahawks offense then stalled, punting on the next three possessions. While the Wagner offense was denied the Assumption offense was on the mark, scoring on each of its first four possessions to take a 24-3 halftime lead.

In the decisive first half, Assumption collected 110 yards on the ground while averaging 9.2 yards per carry as Wagner picked up just 39 yards on 2.8 yards per carry. All told the Greyhounds accrued 271 yards of total offense, compared to just 134 for the Seahawks.

In the second half, Wagner stopped Assumption for a three-and-out to begin the third quarter and was driving before fumbling the ball in Greyhound territory. Following a change of possession, the Seahawks mounted their most successful drive of the night marching 78 yards on 14 plays as sophomore Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY / Moore Catholic) found senior Tyrone Collins (Geneva, NY / Geneva) with a seven-yard touchdown strike with 11:50 to go in the game, cutting the lead to 24-9.

Unfortunately, that would be it for the Green & White as Assumption took 7:42 off the clock on its next possession before missing a field goal. Wagner drove into Assumption territory before being stopped on downs and the Greyhounds ran out the clock to preserve the win.

Doscher turned in a solid performance completing 19-of-35 for 202 yards and one touchdown. Senior Justin Matthews (Hillside, NJ / Hillside) was the recipient of a career-best seven catches for 68 yards, both of which paced the squad. Junior David Crawford (Carrollton, TX / Hebron) hauled in five catches for 54 yards while Collins had three catches for 25 yards and the only Wagner touchdown.

On the ground senior Jeremy Martinez (Brookhaven, NY / Bellport) paced the Seahawks with 52 yards on seven carries while also catching two passes for 20 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore Carl-Olivier Prime (Quebec, Canada / Kent School) led the way with eight tackles while junior Julian Stanford (Bloomfield, CT / Bloomfield) also had eight stops. Senior captain Keith Davis (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt) rounded out the top performers on defense with seven tackles and the lone sack of the game for the Green & White.

Herb Woodard paced the Assumption attack, rushing for 106 yards on 15 carries while quarterback Andrew Kupec was 18-for-24 for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

The Green & White return to action on Saturday, Septetember 18 at 1:00 when Wagner welcomes Cornell to Staten Island.
