Bloomington, IN – The Wagner College Water Polo team (10-13, 0-0 MAAC) made it two wins in a row behind a career-best performance from junior
Natalie Pyrz (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area). Pyrz tied a season-high mark with four goals in single game to defeat the Gannon University Golden Knights, 13-5. The game marked the third time in the last two years that Pyrz accomplished the feat – having last tallied four markers on April 5th, 2009 against Iona.
A 2-1 early lead for the Golden Knights did not last long as the Seahawks tallied four goals in each of the remaining periods to cruise to the 13-5 victory. Wagner's 13 goals are the most in a single game since their 15-12 win over Whittier College on March 7th and the five goals allowed are the defense's lowest total in the nine games.
For the second straight game, Pyrz led the team with four goals scored – bring her total today to seven goals with one game remaining this evening. Also contributing a multi-goal game for the Seahawks was junior
Laura Vanderbent (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin), who's three goals brought her team-leading total to 35 markers and extended her scoring streak to eight straight games.
Six other Seahawks added a goal apiece in the win, including sophomore
Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA/Wilson), sophomore
Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn), junior
Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Governor Mifflin), sophomore
Lauren Lovallo (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich), sophomore
Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), and freshman
Leslie Poole (Downey, CA/Warren). For Poole, the marker was her first collegiate score.
Senior goalie
Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon/Fullerton JC) made 16 saves in net for her fourth straight double-digit save performance. It is the fifth time season Rodgers held the opponent to five goals or less.
Wagner's next game is against No. 8 ranked University of Michigan at 6:45 PM
