Loudonville, NY - The Green & White tipped off the school's 41st season owith a pulsating
52-48 overtime victory over Army at the Spiro Sports Center on Nov. 12 and will travel to Loudonville, NY to meet the Saints of Siena in a 200 pm tip-off on Satyyrday, Nov. 20.
Senior guard
Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, NY/ St. Peter's) paced the Seahawks with 14 points and spearheaded a defense that limited Army to 28 percent shooting from the field. Sophomore guard
Veronick Fournier (Gatineau, Quebec/ Montmorency) hit a big llate bucket en route to a career-high nine-point outing.
Siena enters the Wagner game with a 1-1 record and fresh off a 66-56 home win over Colgate on Nov. 15. Senior forward Serena Moore was a key reason for the victory and had a monster second half, showing why she's a MAAC Player of the Year Candidate. Moore poured in a game-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and a career-high six assists.
Game Time - Wagner began its 41st season of intercollegiate basketball with a non-conference 52-48
overtime win over Army on Nov. 13 and now face a Siena team which the Seahawks defeataed 63-55 last season on Staten Island.
The Coaches - Head coach
Gela Mikalauskas is in her 17th season on the Wagner sidelines with a record of 203-251 record. On the opposing sideline will be Siena coach Gina Castelli, who is in his 21st season .and sports a record of 310-264. Castelli became the third MAAC women's coach to win 300 career games last season. She earned the milestone victory against cross-town rival UAlbany on December 5, 2009. Castelli is the winningest basketball coach in school history
Last Year vs. Siena - Wagner outscored Siena 41-27 in the decisive second half en route to a 63-55 comefrom-behind victory in the Seahawks' home opener at the Spiro Sports Center. Junior Sha'Ron Harrison (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy) tallied a career-high 15 points and game-high 12 rebounds n carrying Wagner to its fi rst win of the year against three losses while the Saints dropped to 0-3. Trailing 50-48 with 7:03 remaining in the game the Seahawks closed out the game with a 15-5 run while sinking 9-of-11 from the charity stripe and limited Siena to just 2-of-11 shooting during that time. Kelly Clark (Neptune, NJ / St. Rose) evened the score at 50-50 with a fast-break lay-up.
Junior
Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) put the Green & White up for good with a fast-break lay-up of her own after stealing the inbounds pass with 5:07 remaining.
