New Britain, CT – The Wagner women's cross country team placed ninth out of 12 teams at the 5K Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships held at Stanley Quarter Park on the campus of Central Connecticut State University.
Quinnipiac won the team title, finishing with 34 points and were led by Rebecca White, who was the top individual finisher, completing the course in 17:17.1, which was 18 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Merel Van Steenberger.
Monmouth was second with 69 points, followed by Sacred Heart (109 points), Robert Morris (115), CCSU (132), SFPA (135), Mount St. Mary's (147), Bryant (262), Wagner (263), FDU (278), SFNY (285) and Long Island (333).

Alexis Bivona (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) was the second Seahawk finisher, taking 49th in 19:40.1. Classmate
Samantha Lauro (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) was the next Wagner runner to cross the line, placing 53rd in 19:52.0. Lauro's time shaved 23 seconds off her previous top time on the course. Rounding out the scorers for the Green & White were freshman
Cameo Kirk (Ocean Port, NJ / Shore Regional) and sophomore
Dominique Serpe (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy), finishing 55th (19:58.1) and 61st (20:21.0), respectively, as each runner established personal-best times on the course. Sophomore
Kelly Dennis (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) just missed scoring, taking 64th in 20:42.2.
The Seahawks' ninth-place finish caps a successful NEC season as the Green & White were 12th a year ago and picked to finish dead-last again in the NEC preseason coaches poll.
The women return to action on Saturday, November 13 when the Seahawks compete in the NCAA Regional Championships at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Hammonasset, CT.
