Seahawks Soar Past Delaware State, 7-0

Staten Island, NY- A pair of goals from freshman midfielder Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY/ Notre Dame Academy), junior midfielder Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/ MacArthur) and freshman forward Ariane Ackerman (River Edge, NJ/ River Dell), along with a lone goal by freshman midfielder Jessica Panarella (Staten Island, NY/ McKee-Tech), lifted the Wagner College women's soccer team to its first win off the season as the Seahawks cruised past Delaware State 7-0. 

Vigliotti got the Green & White on the board early when she headed in a goal in the eighth minute to put the Seahawks up 1-0. Balling opened up Wagner's scoring run with a pair of unassisted goals in the the 26th and 53rd minutes. Balling's first goal came via a header from in front of the net followed by a shot that bounced off a DSU player, crediting her with the goal. 

While continuing to pressure the Hornets' defense, Vigliotti knocked home her second goal of the day when she picked up a pass from Balling and chipped in a goal from eight yards out, extending the lead to 4-0. Wagner's next three goals would come within a three-minute span as the Seahawks brought their lead to 7-0. Ackerman started the rapid attack by netting a pair of goals a minute apart from each other. Her first goal came in the 79th minute , a shot from 10 yards out . She then tagged on her second from 15 yards out in the 80th minute. Panarella capped the day's scoring with a header off a corner kick by junior Whitney Prindible (Hockessin, DE/ St. Marks) in the 82nd minute of the game. 

Wagner held a commanding 45-4 advantage in shots while junior goalkeeper Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield) had to make just two saves for her first shutout of the year. Sophomore goalie Jen Emigholz (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) also recorded a save in her 14 minutes of action. 

The Seahawks (1-2) return to action Friday, September 11 when they travel to Ambler, PA to face Temple University. Start time is set for 4:00 pm.
