Piscataway, NJ- The Wagner College men's golf team competed at the Rutgers Men's Golf Invitation last weekend where they played two very wet rounds of golf at the Par 71, 6337 yard Rutgers University Golf course. Junior
Thomas Abramoski (Poughkeepsie, NY/ Our Lady of Lourdes) led the Seahawks with a top-20 finish, tying for 18th-place overall in the 73 man field. The Seahawks finished in 13th-place with a two round total of 659.
Abramoski bested the team by shooting a 153 (78-75). Sophomore
Steve Nakajima also had a solid showing, finishing in 55th-place, posting rounds of 82-80 (162). Rounding out the pack for the Green & White were freshman
Christopher Mathewson (Amsterdam, NY/ Amsterdam), junior
Connor Popp (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) and junior
Brian Conlan (Highland Mills, NY/ John S. Burke Catholic), who carded scores of 172, 173 and 175, respectively.
“For the first tournament of the year, there are some definite positives,” said assistant coach
Chris Fourman. “Tom had a top-20 finish and everyone bettered their scores in the second day. There were a lot of shots left on the golf course that we will be able to improve upon in two weeks at Cornell. We played against some impressive competition this weekend, and while the results don't necessarily reflect it, we held our own in the wind and rain.”
The Green & White return to action Saturday, September 26 when they travel to Ithaca, NY to compete in the two day long Cornell Invitational.
